One of the finest characters actors and action movie villains of our generation, Patrick Kilpatrick has made his presence known in more than 170 films and TV shows over the past quarter-century, including The Replacement Killers, Eraser, Last Man Standing, Under Siege 2: Dark Territory, The Presidio, Last Stand at Saber River, Crossfire Trail, The Quick and the Dead, Minority Report, Death Warrant, Criminal Minds, 24, Shark, Cold Case, Dr. Quinn: Medicine Woman, Nip/Tuck, Burn Notice, Chuck, all three incarnations of CSI, and all three versions of NCIS.

As an actor, Patrick has been killed, beaten up or jailed by some of the biggest names in movies and television, including Sean Connery, Chow Yun-Fat, Arnold Schwarzenegger, James Caan, Tom Selleck, Bruce Willis, Steven Seagal, Mark Harmon, Sam Elliott, and Kiefer Sutherland. What you may not know is that—in real life—Patrick almost died at least three times before he turned seventeen, including severe bouts with asthma, allergies, and nearly being stabbed to death by his own mother.

Fortunately, Patrick also discovered his passion for the written word at a very young age. His memoir, Dying for Living: Sins and Confessions of a Hollywood Villain and Libertine Patriot, is a rollicking yet often poignant recounting of his volatile upbringing that also includes a searing, often hilarious, and occasionally scandalous behind-the-scenes look at working with Hollywood’s elite. Patrick Kilpatrick will join us in our second hour.

Joe Mantegna had this to say about Dying for Living: “You may love it. You may hate it. But you will never forget it.” (And having read Patrick’s book ourselves, we agree.) Volume I of Dying for Living is available now in hardcover, as an eBook, and as an audiobook; Volume II is scheduled for release later in 2019. For our listeners in Denver, Colorado, Patrick Kilpatrick is scheduled to appear at the Tattered Cover Bookstore on Wednesday, Aug. 28.

This week’s program will also include a conversation with Christopher Lennertz, the award-winning producer, composer and conductor whose numerous contributions to television, film and video games include Marvel’s Agent Carter, ABC’s Galavant, the Netflix version of Lost in Space, and the hit movie version of Alvin and the Chipmunks.

Christopher’s latest feature is the animated musical Ugly Dolls starring Kelly Clarkson, and for which he created original songs with Glenn Slater, the lyricist for Disney’s Tangled. Ugly Dolls: The Movie is playing in theaters everywhere, while the soundtrack for Ugly Dolls is available wherever music is sold. Christopher Lennertz will join us in our first hour.

Plus: We’ll continue our special coverage of recent events from the floor of The Hollywood Museum, including interviews with singer, actress and producer Barbara van Orden (L.A.’s Next Great Stage Star: 2019), actor and author Richard Pryor Jr. (In a Pryor Life), and Golden Girls historian Jim Colucci, author of a forthcoming book about The Love Boat.

via Decades Network: Decades TV announces that it will air sixty-eight episodes of The Doris Day Show for its Memorial Day Weekend weekend binge beginning Saturday 5/25 at 1pm ET 10am PT

May 13, 2019 — Chicago, IL — DECADES TV Network will honor the life and career of late Hollywood legend Doris Day with a weekend binge of The Doris Day Show. Starting Saturday, May 25 at 1:00PM ET, DECADES will present 68 episodes of the beloved sitcom airing back to back through Monday, May 27 at 7:00AM ET.

Day began her career in show business in the early 1940s as a vocalist for swing troupe Les Brown’s band, where she recorded the wartime hits Sentimental Journey and My Dreams Are Getting Better All the Time. By the 1950s and after numerous Top 10 Billboard hits, Day became one of the highest paid singers of her time.

Her music success quickly transferred to the big screen when she landed her first leading Hollywood film role in the 1948 musical Romance on the High Seas. With her sultry vocals and innocent, “all-American girl” persona, Day went on to star in several box office hits including Young at Heart with Frank Sinatra, Love Me or Leave Me with James Cagney, and the Alfred Hitchcock film The Man Who Knew Too Much with James Stewart. The latter film was Day’s tenth Top 10 box office hit and earned an Academy Award for Best Original Song for Que Será, Será (Whatever Will Be, Will Be), the eventual theme song for The Doris Day Show. In 1959, Day starred in Pillow Talk, her first of three films with lifelong friend Rock Hudson, and earned her only Academy Award nomination for Best Actress.

In 1968, Day transitioned to television in The Doris Day Show. Remembered for its ever-changing premise and cast, the cheery series served as the legend?s last major on screen performance. Originally formatted as a rural, family-centric sitcom with Day in the role of a widowed mother of two young sons, the series changed abruptly in Season 4 as Day took on the role of a single, career woman in an attempt to keep up with changing audience sensibilities of the early 1970s.

After retiring from the industry, Day devoted her time advocating for animal rights through the Doris Day Animal Foundation and the Doris Day Animal League. Day was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2004.

via Decades Network: DECADES TV Network remembers Peggy Lipton with a Mod Squad weekend binge beginning Saturday 5/18 at 10am ET 7am PT

May 13, 2019 — Chicago, IL — DECADES TV Network will honor the life and career of the late actress Peggy Lipton with a weekend binge of The Mod Squad. The digital retro television network will air forty-two episodes of the groundbreaking series airing back to back beginning Saturday 5/18 at 10am ET 7am PT and continuing thru Monday 5/20 at 7am ET 4am PT.

In 1968, Lipton, a former teen model, landed the role of street-savvy Julia Barnes on The Mod Squad and was catapulted into stardom, becoming the ?It Girl? of the early 1970s with her authentic vibrancy, fresh take on the character, and of course, her signature long blond hair and hippie-chic style. Also starring Michael Cole and Clarence Williams III, The Mod Squad is remembered for being a modern riff on the police drama genre, attempting to reach a new, young audience who was turning off their parents? TV in favor of current movies, music and social movements. The formula of a young, interracial cast of outsiders taking on the establishment worked, and the show was a hit. At the time executive producer Aaron Spelling was quoted, “We’re telling it like it is. Somebody has to help adults understand young people. They’ve got so many hang-ups and nobody seems to care. Love is the answer. Those hippies are right. Those kids are so totally involved with life, they’ve involved me.”

Over five seasons, the series tackled hard-hitting, socially relevant issues in a new and more realistic way for TV, ranging from drugs and domestic violence, to police brutality and even complex aspects of the Vietnam War.  Lipton earned four Emmy Award nominations and a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in 1971.

In 1974, Lipton married prolific music producer Quincy Jones and soon gave birth to two daughters, Kidada and Rashida Jones. Following their 1989 divorce, Lipton returned to the small screen in the role of Norma Jennings in cult hit Twin Peaks. Lipton?s most recent credits include films When in Rome and A Dog?s Purpose and appearances on TV series AliasCrash, House of Lies and the 2017 revival of Twin Peaks 2017 revival.

Ed Robertson with Emmy Award winner Robert Hooks

Emmy Award-winning actor, producer, and “cultural architect” Robert Hooks will join us for Part 2 of a conversation that began last month about his career in stage, film, and television. Founder of three significant African-American theatre companies—the Group Theatre Workshop in New York; the DC Black Repertory Company in his hometown of Washington, D.C.; and the internationally recognized Negro Ensemble Company in New York—Robert became the first African-American actor to star in a network TV drama when he was cast as police detective Jeff Ward on N.Y.P.D. (ABC, 1967-1969), the first TV cop show with the official imprimatur of the New York Police Department, and the first network series to portray an African-American police officer as one of its regular characters.

This week, we’ll ask Robert about some of his other notable film and TV roles, including Admiral Morrow, the commander of Starfleet, in Star Trek III: The Search for Spock, and private eye “Mr. T” in the classic 1972 blaxploitation movie Trouble Man. Robert Hooks will join us in our second hour; Chuck Harter, who arranged for Robert’s appearance, will be our special co-host.

This week’s show will also include Part 2 of our conversation with award-winning writer, director, and Star Trek historian Mark Cushman. Marc’s latest book, These Are the Voyages: Gene Roddenberry and Star Trek in the 1970s, is the first of a two-volume biography that chronicles the career of the Great Bird of the Galaxy between the cancellation of the original Star Trek in 1969 and the release of Star Trek: The Motion Picture in 1979. Among other topics this week, Marc will take us behind the scenes of The Questor Tapes, the critically acclaimed series pilot that many consider to be Roddenberry’s best work (other than Star Trek). Marc Cushman will join us in our first hour.

Volume I of These Are the Voyages, Marc Cushman’s critically acclaimed three-volume history of the original Star Trek, is now available as an audiobook.

Plus: We’ll bring you special coverage from the floor of The Hollywood Museum, including our interviews with some of the special guests who attended the opening night festivities of the new Remembering Lucy exhibit.
