Fans of General Hospital know Carolyn Hennesy as attorney Diane Miller, a character that the Emmy Award-winning actress has played for fourteen years and more than five hundred episodes. Indeed, Carolyn’s quincentennial episode as Diane aired on GH just before the Christmas holidays. (That show was originally set for broadcast earlier in 2020, but production was delayed because of the national shutdown.)
Carolyn will talk about playing Diane, plus we’ll ask her about some of her other movie and TV roles (which include A Snow White Christmas, Revenge, True Blood, Legally Blonde, Cougar Town, St. Agatha, Studio City, and, most recently, The Swing of Things). We’ll particularly discuss how she approaches playing characters that are either downright evil or over the top. Carolyn Hennesy will join us in our second hour.
Our first hour feature Part 2 of a conversation that began on our Dec. 18-20 program with television writer and producer Paul Robert Coyle. Paul’s memoir, Swords, Starships and Superheroes, not only includes great behind-the-scenes stories of his experiences on such shows as The Streets of San Francisco, Barnaby Jones, CHiPs, Crazy Like a Fox, Xena: Warrior Princess, Hercules: The Incredible Journeys, and Stephen King’s The Dead Zone, but includes many useful tips on how to pursue a career as a professional writer—whether you want to write for television or any other form.
Also this week: We will play highlights from our July 2011 conversation with William Link, the Emmy Award-winning writer/producer (Columbo, Mannix, Ellery Queen, Murder She Wrote, The Columbo Collection) who passed away on Sunday, Dec. 27.
This particular conversation with Bill originally aired as part of a tribute to Peter Falk. As such, we talked to Bill that day about the origins of Columbo (which Bill created along with his longtime collaborator, Richard Levinson); Falk’s friendship with Levinson and Link, which predated their work on the Columbo television series; how Falk came to be cast as Columbo; and the enduring appeal of the Columbo character. We’ll replay our conversation with William Link during our first and second hours.
