Our first hour will include Part 2 of a conversation that began a few weeks ago with Emmy Award-winning actor Kevin Spirtas (Days of Our Lives). Kevin is the star and co-creator, along with Michael Slade, of After Forever, the multi Emmy Award-winning digital series that has won critical acclaim not only for its portrayal of gay men in their fifties, but for its unflinching honesty in dealing with loss. In an untimely example of life imitating art, Michael Slade passed away on Dec. 27, 2020, a few days before the release of Riley’s Unforgettable School Project, a thirty-minute documentary-style stand-alone special that provides a bridge between the end of Season 2 of After Forever and the start of Season 3. Kevin Spirtas’ appearance this week is dedicated to Michael’s memory.
Our second hour will include the second half of a conversation we began last week with television writer and producer Paul Robert Coyle. This week, Paul will take us behind the scenes of Xena: Warrior Princess and Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, plus he’ll share the strange but true story of his experience writing for Stephen King’s The Dead Zone. Paul’s memoir, Swords, Starships and Superheroes, includes great stories about his experiences on such shows as The Streets of San Francisco, Barnaby Jones, CHiPs, Crazy Like a Fox, Xena: Warrior Princess, Hercules: The Incredible Journeys, and Stephen King’s The Dead Zone, plus many useful tips on how to pursue a career as a professional writer—whether you want to write for television or any other form.
Also this week: Greg Ehrbar will provide a capsule history of the early film and TV adaptations of the popular comic strip Blondie.
Plus: We will welcome Gina Goff, producer of Senior Moment, a delightful romantic comedy starring William Shatner, Jean Smart, and Christopher Lloyd about a retired NASA pilot who must learn how to navigate life and love all over again when he finds himself stripped of his drivers license and unable to drive his beloved vintage Porsche. Filmed on location in Palm Springs, Senior Moment not only features many other familiar faces (including Esai Morales, Don McManus, Kaye Ballard, and Ruta Lee), but will remind you of such modern classics as As Good as It Gets, Something’s Gotta Give, and, to some extent, The Karate Kid. Gina Goff will join us in our first hour.
Senior Moment will have a limited theatrical release on Friday, March 26 then become available for viewing on demand on the major streaming platforms.
