This week’s program will include a return visit by Howard Storm and Steve Stoliar. Robin Williams’ regular director during the first three seasons of Mork & Mindy, Howard began his showbiz career as a teenager, performing in nightclubs in New York in the 1950s—where he either crossed paths with or worked alongside such legends as Lenny Bruce, Shecky Greene, Joan Rivers, Judy Garland, and Woody Allen—then later performing improv in the late ’60s and early 1970s as a member of The Committee along with Peter Bonerz and Howard Hesseman. Howard also worked steadily as an actor in movies and TV throughout the 1960s (including a stint as a member of The Desilu Players, where he learned his craft along with such other young actors as Robert Osbourne and Roger Perry) before becoming one of the busiest directors in television, helming such shows as Laverne & Shirley, Everybody Loves Raymond, Kenan and Kel, and Rhoda, plus nearly sixty episodes of Mork & Mindy.
Howard will share some more stories of his showbiz career, including insight into both Desi Arnaz and Lucille Ball, when he joins us in our second hour. Steve Stoliar (Raised Eyebrows: My Years Inside Groucho’s House) will co-host. Steve is the co-author of Howard’s memoirs, The Imperfect Storm: From Henry Street to Hollywood.
We’ll look at some of the many cultural references that came from Laugh-In, plus Jim will talk about a few of his other showbiz experiences, which included writing original material for Ann-Margret, Cass Elliot, The Doobie Brothers, and Los Angeles radio and TV personalities Al Lohman and Roger Barkley. Jim Abell will join us in our first hour.
