Nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Academy Award in 1986 for his performance in Runaway Train, and the recipient of three Golden Globe Award nominations (for King of the Gypsies, Star 80, and Runaway Train), Eric Roberts is one of the most prolific, highly sought-after actors in the industry today, with more than 500 film and TV credits under his belt—including a staggering 150 movie or television roles between 2013 and 2015 alone. Known for his work on the silver screen, Roberts began his screen career on the soap opera Another World and has appeared steadily on TV over the past two decades, including a co-starring role on the ABC sitcom Less Than Perfect, recurring roles in Heroes and The Young and the Restless, plus many made-for-TV movies, including the Emmy-nominated television adaptation of In Cold Blood.
Given how much Eric enjoys working, we will ask him how he’s holding up during this time of industry shutdown. He’ll also share a few stories about his film and TV career—plus we’ll talk about an affordable, hands-on solution for a medical condition that affects roughly 50 percent of all men age forty and up. Eric Roberts will join us in our second hour.
This week’s show will also include a return appearance by author Steven Taibbi (Grateful Guilt: Living in the Shadow of My Heart). Born with a cyanotic heart and three birth defects, Steven has spent much of his life in and out of hospitals receiving treatment for these and other medical conditions, including two open heart surgeries and two heart transplants.
Since his last visit to our program, Steven had a chance to meet the family of the man whose heart he received in his second heart transplant procedure. Statistically, only 3 percent of donor families answer any correspondence from recipients, let alone meet them. We’ll ask him how that meeting went, plus we’ll talk about Steven’s career in television, which includes working behind the scenes on daytime talk shows hosted by Joan Lunden and Dr. Ruth Westheimer. Steven Taibbi will join us in our first hour.
