Known around the world as Olivia Walton, the matriarch of The Waltons, four-time Emmy Award-winning actress Michael Learned also has enjoyed an extensive stage career, on and off Broadway, including productions of Steel Magnolias, The Best Man, The Sisters Rosenweig, and the national tour of On Golden Pond.
Michael Learned will also be honored by the Family Film Awards with their annual Legend Award on Thursday, Sept. 27, plus she is getting ready to reprise the role of Miss Daisy in a stage production of Driving Miss Daisy in January 2019 at the Laguna Playhouse in Laguna Beach, California. We will ask her about both of these events, plus Michael will discuss the genuine love that Waltons creator Earl Hamner had for his mother and his family, and how grateful she is for her experience on The Waltons because it gave her a second family. Michael Learned will join us in our second hour.
This week’s program will also include a tribute to Burt Reynolds, the legendary actor who died on Thursday, Sept. 6 at the age of 82. Though you probably know Reynolds as a major motion picture star (including five consecutive years as the No. 1 star at the box office), he was also a steady presence on television, both early and late in his career, including supporting roles on Gunsmoke and Riverboat and starring roles in four shows of his own: Hawk, Dan August, Evening Shade and B.L. Stryker.
We have been fortunate enough to interview a number of people who knew and worked with Reynolds throughout his career. We’ll play a few highlights of those conversations when we pay tribute to Burt Reynolds in our first hour.
Also this week: An encore presentation of our interview from June 2014 with Bill Daily, the actor known around the world as Roger Healey on I Dream of Jeannie and Howard Borden on The Bob Newhart Show. Bill Daily passed away on Friday, Sept. 7 at the age of 91.
